Emergency Medicine (Optional Module)
Education is core to the Department of Emergency Medicine’s mission. We strive to educate and inspire medical students in Emergency Medicine. A variety of educational formats are employed, including traditional lectures, case presentations and interactive roundtable discussions. We teach all necessary life-saving skills through simulation with a focus on experiences that require team performance, skills acquisition and the principles of excellent decision-making in the emergency department.

The emergency nurse requires a diverse and specialized knowledge and skill base to appropriately and effectively assess and manage patients in the ED. This course will enable nursing students to develop proficiency in the emergency management of patients experiencing life-threatening situations, through face to face sessions, simulation and clinical practice. The course will encompass triage, legal and ethical issues, managing acute emergencies and communications strategies in the ED. Our aim is to provide nursing students with the knowledge to develop expertise in the management of patients within the ED setting.

The “Undergraduate Emergency Medicine Interest Group” is a student interest group housed under the Department of Emergency Medicine. The group, led by the student members, organizes activities for its members with the overarching goal of bringing together individuals passionate about Emergency Medicine. Meetings and group activities provide students with the opportunity to explore many aspects of the specialty.
